Fulda Gospels

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Luke the Evangelist.

The Fulda Gospel is a Carolingian illuminated manuscript that was created in the Fulda Monastery in the middle of the 9th century . The painting school in Fulda was one of the few in the succession of the Aachen court school of Charlemagne, in whose tradition this gospel book is also stylistically.

Today the Gospels are in the University Library of Würzburg (shelf mark: Mpth.f. 66). The front cover of the splendor code is provided with one of the oldest and artistically best ivory reliefs of the "Younger Metz School".
