Fumio Tamura

Fumio Tamura ( Japanese 田村 文生 , Tamura Fumio ; * 1968 in Tokyo Prefecture ) is a Japanese composer .

Career

He studied composition at Tokyo National University of Fine Arts and Music with Jo Kondo and at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London with Robert Saxton . He was able to study in London from 1995 to 1997 thanks to a scholarship from the Japanese government's study abroad program.

His works have been performed at various music festivals, such as B. The Spitalfields Music Festival , The Asian Music festival , The All Japan Band Festival , 2002 ACL Asian Composers League , in Seoul and The Tokyo-no-Natsu Music Festival . In the latter festival his works were performed by the Moscow Contemporary Music Ensemble . His compositions received international awards, such as B. The Valentio Bucchi International Composition Competition Prize in Rome , the JACA Award for Theater Arts and the National Theater Award . He also received an honorable mention at the Genesis Prize for Opera in 2002.

He currently works as a lecturer at Kobe University , where he is responsible for opera composition, modern and contemporary music in Great Britain, and as a lecturer at Tōhō-Gakuen University .
