Funivia dell'Etna
The Funivia dell'Etna is a cable car on the 3323 m slm high Etna , the highest active volcano in Europe, near Catania on the Italian island of Sicily .
Old cable car
The former cable car to Mount Etna was completely destroyed in the eruptions in 2001 and 2002 and replaced by the new one.
Route and stations of the new cable car
- Rifugio Sapienza Sud valley station ( 1923 m slm ) at the Silvestri crater
- Mountain station La Montagnola ( 2504 m slm )
The train takes around 15 minutes for a one-way trip. From the La Montagnola station, all-wheel-drive buses drive up to around 3000 m slm
Other railways
There is a ski lift on Mount Etna because the mountain is home to a popular winter sports area. This is only open when Etna is not active.
