The FunkForum is a media association of the German-speaking minorities in Southeast Europe .

It bundles the content of the participating radio, print, TV and online editors on a joint homepage and serves the members of the German-speaking minorities, as well as other German-speaking people in the region, as a source of information for developments within their own community, as well as for other news from politics, culture and society in German in countries with a different majority language. At the same time, the visibility of the German minorities is promoted.

In addition to the regular exchange of information and contributions, the voluntary member editors also create monthly community programs that are taken over and broadcast by the respective stations, organize training courses and appear together in public.

In addition, the FunkForum is also involved in the organization of workshops and regular school programs in the field of youth work.

history

As a pilot project in the area of German-speaking cross-border cooperation in the region, the FunkForum was initially founded in 2001 on the initiative of ifa coordinator Peter Kratzer at a meeting seminar between Romanian and Hungarian radio editors in Timisoara , Romania . Later on, editors from Serbia and Croatia also joined the project. A joint radio broadcast - FunkMagazin - was broadcast for the first time in January 2002 and then continuously on a monthly basis. Ingrid Schiffer was elected as the first chairman. Since then, elections have taken place every two years. The headquarters in the building of the regional radio station Radio Timisoara was inaugurated on September 16, 2002.

From 2003 onwards, the FunkForum also organized cultural events such as readings or public radio days, issued various CDs and publications and became increasingly involved in youth work. In 2004, for example, the “Pausenradio” project was launched at the Nikolaus Lenau School in Timisoara, and cross-border workshops for schoolchildren were organized. In 2006 the chairmanship changed from Ingrif Schiffer to Adrian Ardelean and in 2010 to Astrid Weisz.

In 2008 the FunkForum also opened up to TV journalism and in 2009 finally also to print and online media. The chief editor of the Banater Zeitung, Siegfried Thiel, has been the chairman since November 2016.
