Futaba Channel ( jap . ふたば(双葉) ☆ちゃんねる Futaba Channeru , German , two-blade channel ' ), also Futaba or 2chan is a Japanese Image board . It served as a model for the English-language website 4chan .

history

In August 2001 the popular Japanese text board 2channel was about to close. Unknown people then set up an alternative site called 2chan to offer an alternative if 2channel should actually go under. In the beginning, 2chan was also a text board, but a short time after it was founded, it offered the option of combining images with posts. Since then, the site has developed independently of 2channel and today has its own user base and culture.

In October 2003, the American Christopher Poole founded 4chan, the principle of which was largely adopted by Futaba Channel.

functionality

The structure of the site is very similar to the 2channel model. It is divided into a large number of sub-forums, each assigned to a topic. These topics cover everything from anime to video games, food, sports and politics to nuclear energy. Posts are numbered individually on each board and identified by this number.

By default , users of the site post anonymously - the name is then 名 無 し Nanashi , in English 'nameless' - but they have the option of entering a name and an email address. Part of the IP address is also shown.
