Feed kitchen

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A feed kitchen is a facility for the preparation of animal food ( feed ) for zoo animals and formerly also for farm animals . Some feeds are boiled, mixed, or prepared with additional vitamins and minerals . Care must be taken that the food requirements of the animals can depend on the seasons, for example . Hygiene is one of the special requirements of a feed kitchen.

In the past, a feed kitchen was also part of larger farms. A washing kettle was used in the pig fattening area to cook fodder potatoes before this was carried out from the 1950s by mobile potato steamers directly after the harvest, in order to ensile the steamed potatoes afterwards . In most of the industrialized countries, pigs are now fed with automated computer-controlled feeds. The room in which the feed is prepared is called the feed center.
