Gardens of Eyrignac

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The gardens of Eyrignac belong to the country estate of Eyrignac, which is located in the canton of Salignac in the French Périgord noir in the Dordogne department .

The extensive garden around the manor house , built by Antoine de Costes de la Calprenède in 1653, was originally laid out by a descendant living in Paris in the second half of the 18th century according to the taste of the time. Redesigned several times in the 19th century, away from the formal French garden, the present-day appearance, which is based on old manuscripts and depictions, is due to the father of the current owner, Gilles Sermadiras de Pouzols de Lile. The garden complex, which extends over 4 hectares on a hill, is constantly looked after by several gardeners.

The aim was to reintegrate aspects of the geometric garden into the picturesque garden during the redesign. It consists of evergreen plants and is varied in design: Escape lined with trimmed yew trees ; Pine hems ; Arabesques ; Hornbeam ; Cypress groves ; Box trees . The topiary ( topiary ) the plants and the inserted for ornamental pavilions , urns , basins and fountains are essential elements of garden art that had emerged in the 18th century in France.
