Rebecca Rose Lobo (born October 6, 1973 in Southwick , Massachusetts , United States ) is a former professional basketball player. She played for the New York Liberty , Houston Comets and Connecticut Sun in the Women's National Basketball Association . For her work as a TV commentator, she was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame as a contributor in 2017 .

Career

college

Rebecca Lobo played for the Connecticut Huskies, the University of Connecticut basketball team . In 1995 she won the NCAA Division I Women's Basketball Championship with the Huskies . In the same year she was also named Naismith College Player of the Year . She was also honored with the Associated Press Athlete of the Year award .

Women's National Basketball Association

Lobo was in the 1997 Initial Player Allocation of the New York Liberty allocated. Lobo played a total of five seasons for Liberty. In the 1999 season she suffered a serious knee injury in the first minute of the first game of the season and had to end this season early. Also in the 2000 season she could not play a game due to the injury. Lobo was unable to fully recover from this injury and was unable to build on her previous performance.

After the 2001 season , she was transferred to the Houston Comets for a second-round pick (26th overall) in the 2002 WNBA Draft . She played for the Connecticut Sun in the 2003 season , which was also her final WNBA season.

International

Lobo won the gold medal with the US women's basketball team at the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta .
