Göglhaus at the "daily market"

The Göglhaus in Krems an der Donau (corner of Daily Market No. 2 - Obere Landstrasse No. 1) is a historical building, which was mentioned in a document as early as 1150.

The house was owned by the Eggenburger family in the late Middle Ages and is now named after an owner from the 19th century. It has a unique late Gothic gate bay above the main portal , which was built in 1487–1511 under Mert Eggenburger. The extensive facade was decorated with figures and groups of figures around 1520. Particularly noteworthy is the restored coat of arms decoration against Obere Landstrasse and the coat of arms representations on the once free-standing battlements. They contain Habsburg and imperial ideology and probably date from the time of Maximilian I , possibly narrowing down to 1504–1508.

The inner courtyards and some rooms also have medieval structures. The Göglhaus contains one of the few examples in Austria of a diamond or cell vault from the Renaissance period.

A singular note suggests that this house fulfilled the function of the " Schranne " as a place of jurisdiction and administration until today's town hall was built .
