Göttingen weekly newspaper

The Göttinger Wochenzeitung was a local weekly newspaper that appeared from February 3 to July 7, 2006 in Göttingen and the surrounding area . It was Germany's only local newspaper organized as a cooperative. The publisher was the Göttinger Wochenzeitung eG publishing cooperative. The newspaper described itself as independent. The day of publication was always on Friday. It had a length of 32 pages and was next to the Göttinger Tageblatt the second regular newspaper in the city. Since November 26, 2004, when the cooperative was founded , the number of members has grown from 50 to over 300, according to the company, with a total of 581 shares of 100 euros each. The Göttingen weekly newspaper covered the areas of politics and social affairs, economy and work, culture, urban development, environment and nutrition, sport, miscellaneous, and there was also an open participation page and a readers' forum. The newspaper had eight permanent employees.

On September 29, 2003 the project was presented to the public for the first time in a local weekly newspaper in Göttingen. The first meeting of the members of the cooperative took place on April 21, 2004; the Göttinger Wochenzeitung eG publishing cooperative was founded on November 26, 2004. The first special edition with a focus on culture was published on October 14, 2005, and a second special edition was published on November 11, focusing on the environment and nutrition. The regular number one of the Göttingen weekly newspaper was published on February 3, 2006.

On July 10, 2006, an application for insolvency was filed with the Göttingen District Court. The last issue took place on July 7th. As a follow-up project, a Neue Göttinger Wochenzeitung , independent of the old cooperative, was produced. This project was also discontinued on December 23, 2006.
