Overview map of the planned Götzendorfer clasp

The planned route with a length of approx. 14 km was to branch off the existing route west of Fischamend and lead between the municipal areas of Schwadorf and Enzersdorf an der Fischa , cross the Budapester Straße B10 and finally join the Ostbahn at Götzendorf . This should enable the rail connection from Vienna to Bratislava and Budapest starting from Vienna Central Station via Vienna Airport Station . The route should be designed for a maximum speed of 160 km / h.

Planning and implementation of the overall project were prepared by ÖBB-Infrastruktur AG and the office of the Lower Austrian provincial government. The budget consolidation of the state planned for 2012, which required considerable savings at ÖBB , made the Götzendorfer clasp unaffordable for the foreseeable future.

There were letters of intent for the project from the federal government as well as the states of Vienna and Lower Austria; it should be funded by the European Union as part of the Trans-European Networks co-financing with Community grants for the trans-European transport network .

By 2011, total costs of around 145 million euros were expected for the railway line, and construction began in 2013 and commissioning in 2016. The environmental impact assessment was concluded positively. In April 2015 it was announced that the Götzendorfer Spange will no longer be tracked and instead a route along the east A4 motorway via Bruck an der Leitha is being planned.

Running parallel to the railway, a new state road B60 was to be built to relieve traffic in the local areas of Fischamend, Klein-Neusiedl , Enzersdorf an der Fischa, Schwadorf and Margarethen am Moos .
