Günter Ditgens

Günter Ditgens (born March 10, 1946 in Munich-Gladbach ) is a German politician (CDU). From 1999 to 2009 he was mayor of the city of Wesseling .

education and profession

From 1952 to 1960 Ditgens attended the Anton-Heinen elementary school in what was then Munich-Gladbach (from 1960 Mönchengladbach ) and worked from 1960 to 1966 as an unskilled building craftsman. He then worked as a contract soldier for twelve years in the air force in Germany and abroad. After obtaining a university entrance qualification, he studied adult education at the PH Aachen from 1975 to 1979. From 1979 to 1999 he worked as a self-employed insurance and real estate agent.

Political career

From 1975 to 1979 Ditgens sat for the SPD in the Selfkant community council and in the Heinsberg district assembly. In 1983 he left the SPD. In 1987 he became a member of the CDU. From 1994 he was a member of the Wesseling City Council and 1st Deputy Mayor. In 1999 he became the first full-time mayor of the city on the Rhine to be directly elected by the citizens. During his term of office, a. the planning and financial security of the inner city development; the construction of the Urfeld Rhine School; the conversion of an inner-city industrial wasteland to the Rheinforum, a large event hall with an attached, small theater; the improvement of inner-city traffic through roundabouts and the acquisition of the large areas of Eichholz and Westring to designate new residential areas and ensure further urban development. His service ended in 2009 after differences with the CDU and a narrowly lost election as an independent candidate.

He had a son from his first marriage (* 1970) and a daughter (* 1995) from his second marriage.
