Belt hangers

Attempt to reconstruct the belt hanger of a Thuringian woman's costume around 530 AD.

The objects hung on a waist belt are called belt hangers .

These items of a belt hanger can on the one hand be tools and devices for daily use such as knives , scissors , combs , bags , bags and on the other hand jewelry or amulets . They hang individually or in groups either on leather or textile side straps or on chains from the waist belt. Belt hangers are an important part of traditional costumes , which have been subject to rapid changes in fashion over the course of history and can therefore provide a reliable indication of the time and region in archaeological finds.
