GAMA was the name of a factory for tin toys that was founded in the city of Fürth in 1881 . The letters of the company name are the initials of the company's founder Georg Adam Mangold .
From 1882 on, GAMA mainly manufactured tin animals, later mainly vehicles and tanks. In 1920 Georg Adam Mangold's son Hans Mangold took over management of the company. In 1924 the company logo and the brand name were registered as trademarks. The GAMA tanks were legendary in the 1930s and were made long after the war . GAMA was one of the first manufacturers to receive a production license from the Allies after the war.
In 1960 GAMA took over tank production from the Nuremberg company Gescha.
Under the name GAMA rallye , the company entered the booming car racing market in 1968 .
In 1971 GAMA bought TRIX Vereinigte Spielwarenfabriken Ernst Voelk KG in Nuremberg and continued it as TRIX-Mangold GmbH & Co KG . In 1980 the parent company Gama-Mangold acquired the rights to Schuco from the insolvent British DCM (Dunbee-Combex-Marx) group and moved the headquarters from Schuco to Fürth. In 1993 the brands Schuco, GAMA and Trix were merged by the parent company.
In 1996 the GAMA and Trix brands were sold to Märklin .
