content

The lyrics to Bonfire are written entirely in English; Translated into German, the title means "beacon". The music and the text were written jointly by Felix Jaehn, Alma Miettinen, Pascal Reinhardt and Joe Walter. Musically, the song moves in the realm of house and pop music . The singing of the hymn is from Alma alone; Jaehn only works as a DJ. Further instrumentalists were Jeremy Chacon on marimba, Jonas Kalisch on drums, Henrik Meinke on keyboard, Vincent Kottkamp on electric bass and Alexsej Vlasenko on synthesizer.

“I am the bonfire,
you make me stronger, you make me light up,
with the shade you throw on me, throw on me.

I am the bonfire,
you make me stronger, I'm going higher,
I live off your gasoline, gasoline. "

- Refrain, original excerpt

“I am the beacon,
you make me stronger, you make me light up,
with the shadow you cast on me, cast on me.

I am the beacon,
you make me stronger, I go higher,
I live on your gasoline, gasoline. "

- Refrain, translation

The song is about the fact that you are constantly being attacked by others in everyday situations, you shouldn't let yourself be dragged down by it, but that it should strengthen you. In an interview with Bild , Jaehn described the content of the song as follows: “The more bad vibes you bring to me, the deeper you push me down, the stronger I get. Your humiliations are the oil that you pour into my fire. "

Music video

An official music video for Bonfire was initially not released. Jaehn initially only published an audio video in which the song can be heard and only a section of the cover image of the single can be seen on his YouTube channel. Within a month, the video had over three million clicks on YouTube.

The official music video was released on August 17, 2016, and it premiered on the Internet presence of Billboard magazine . The shooting took place outside the Bulgarian capital Sofia . You can see Jaehn and Alma fighting with fire in a mountain landscape. For the most part, the two can be seen together in front of a fire as they present the song. In between, Alma can be seen singing the song on a pile of tires, while scenes of Jaehn are shown in which he tries to avoid attacks by fire and, among other things, fends off fireballs with a tennis racket. The video ends in slow motion with the two moving away from the fire while an explosion takes place in the background. The total length of the video is 3:21 minutes. Directed by Kitty Bolhoefer. To date, both videos have over 3.6 million clicks on YouTube (as of August 2016).
