Your Soul ( English as "Your soul") is a song of the British singer-songwriter RHODES . The piece was initially released as a promo single from his debut album Wishes and became better known two years later in a remix version with German DJ Felix Jaehn .
Creation and publication
The song was written by David Christopher Rhodes (RHODES). The single was also produced by Rhodes in collaboration with British music producer James Kenosha. The mastering took place under the direction of the British sound engineer Dick Beetham. Your Soul was mixed by the British music producer Cenzo Townshend. Beetham and Townshend also worked together as sound engineers on the piece. The CD only appeared in a cardboard slipcase. On the orange-pink cover of the promo single you can see a flock of birds in addition to the artist name and song title. This is the same cover image as for the Morning EP .
The single was originally self-released under Rhodes own label Rhodes Music and distributed. The piece was later published by Ministry of Sound and Sony Music and was sometimes published by Sony / ATV Music Publishing . The promo single was first released on May 12, 2014 in the United Kingdom. The day before, Your Soul appeared on his second Extended Play Morning on May 11, 2014. On September 18, 2015, Your Soul was also released as part of his debut album Wishes . Your Soul was among other things in the second season of the American television series Reign , in the episode Das Ende der Trauer ( The End of Mourning ) to hear.

The lyrics to Your Soul are in English. Literally translated into German, the title means something like "your soul". The music and lyrics were written by Rhodes himself. Musically, the song moves in the area of indie pop . The tempo is 107 beats per minute . In terms of content, it is about a broken love relationship that no longer seems to save. One partner still longs for the other, does not yet come to terms with the apparent end and sees only his partner in everything. He no longer wants to discuss or talk, but just enjoy the rest of the time.
The piece consists of two four-line stanzas, a bridge and a refrain . It starts with the first verse followed by a bridge and then the chorus. After the first chorus comes the second stanza, which is followed by the chorus for the second time. After the second refrain, the bridge repeats itself before the third and final time the refrain takes place.

Music video
The music video for Your Soul premiered on April 17, 2014 on YouTube . It shows a pair of lovers floating in slow motion against a black background. In the first section, the two initially approach each other. There follows a scene in which they both hold each other's hand before they are pulled away from each other and fall into "nothing". In the second section both jump towards each other, but miss each other and fall again into the “void”. During the third section, the man hangs upside down and the woman holds on to his hands. You can't hold on to each other and she falls on the "black". At the end and wiping through, scenes of Rhodes can be seen again and again, who is also singing the song against the black background. The total length of the video is 3:51 minutes. Directed by the London director Nick Rutter, the production was carried out by Sonny London. To date, the music video has over 800 thousand views on YouTube (as of March 2018).

Your Soul missed an official chart entry , sales figures are also not known. The British broadcaster BBC Radio 1 put the song at the top of the weekly BBC Introducing Playlist, a playlist that introduces up-and-coming artists. The English-language music portal musicalmoses.com chose the song (for "Track of the day" English "the day music piece" about), describing, among other things as "perfect emotional ballad". Madelene Sutton from the British website aaamusic.co.uk gave it four out of five stars. She decided that it was hard not to love the piece because of its intense emotions and its unstoppable melodic singing that made the message even more passionate.

In Your Soul (Holding On) is a remake or remix version of the original Rhodes along with Felix Jaehn . The text of the new edition does not differ from the original, it is only shortened by a bridge and a refrain. Musically, the remix is more electronic and faster. The piece is more house-oriented than indie-pop. The tempo is 116 bpm and the piece is based on the key of F major . Compared to the original, Your Soul (Holding On) is almost a minute shorter.
Creation and publication
The idea for this collaboration came from Jaehn. He was so convinced of Rhodes' vocals and lyrics on his debut album Wishes that he wanted to work with him "immediately". The lyrics to Your Soul (Holding On) were written by David Christopher Rhodes (RHODES) himself. Rhodes composed the new edition together with Michael Geldreich, Daecolm Holland, Felix Jaehn and Mark Ralph. Was produced Your Soul (Holding On) by Jaehn. The main vocals of the song are still from Rhodes, Jaehn only works as a producer. The cover image is the same as for Your Soul . Only the background color was changed, it is kept greenish.
Your Soul (Holding On) was released under the B1 music label and through Duende Songs, Sony / ATV Music Publishing and Universal Music Publishing . The single was released as a single download on December 16, 2016. On February 3, 2017 expand amended ( "appeared Extended Version ") of the song as a single download. So far, the piece has not been published on any album by the two artists, but has appeared on well-known samplers such as: Bravo Hits 96 , The Dome Vol. 81 and The Ultimate Chartshow - The Most Successful Hits 2017 .

The German-language website djservicehamburg.de named Your Soul (Holding On) the “Song of the Day” and described the piece as a “relaxed, fluffy dance floor hit”.
The German-language music portal trendcharts.de described Jaehn's interpretation of Your Soul as a danceable bridge between the worlds, fluorescent like a long night in a Mediterranean city and as light as a feather in the wind on a mild summer afternoon. The new version lends the down-to-earth simplicity RHODES 'wings. Your Soul (Holding On) is a virtuously composed melange of the ethereal harmonies, powerful melodies and fragile authenticity.

Furthermore, the singles were placed in the iTunes daily evaluations for several weeks and reached position 36 on December 16, 2016 (chart debut), its highest rating. In Austria the single reached position 70 in one chart week and position 93 in Switzerland in two chart weeks.
With Your Soul (Holding On), Rhodes hit the Swiss charts for the second time as an author, performer and music producer after Let It All Go ( Birdy + RHODES) . This was the first time he hit the charts in Germany and Austria. For Jaehn as an interpreter, this is, including the chart success with his music project Eff , the seventh chart success in Germany, as well as his sixth each in Austria and Switzerland.
