content

The lyrics to the Book of Love are in English. The music and the text were written jointly by Polina Goudieva, Jimmy Harry and Felix Jaehn. Musically, the song moves in the realm of deep house and tropical house . The tempo is 125 beats per minute . Universal himself described the Book of Love as a tentative declaration of love, one that life plays like that and that is about writing chapters together right now. Sometimes detached from everything, then again far-reaching emotional and constantly mysterious.

The piece consists of two stanzas, a bridge and a refrain. The song begins with the first verse, followed by the refrain for the first time. The same process is repeated with the second stanza. After the second chorus there is a bridge before the song ends with the third chorus. The main song of the song comes from Polina alone; Jaehn only works as a DJ and instrumentalist (keyboard). In addition to Jaehn, Harry can be heard on the other instruments (guitar and keyboard).

"In the midnight haze, we are sitting in the sun.
The light hits your face and I know that you're the one.
We could fill the pages with good dreams tonight.
I want to be a chapter in your book of love. "

- 1st stanza, original excerpt

We could fill the pages with good dreams tonight

Reviews

The German-language music blog Popschredder rated the piece mixed. Book of Love is catchy, solid fare with “little bell-marimba-tinkling”. The blog is of the opinion that the Tropical House has already passed its creative zenith. The guitar sample comes from last season. They see the commitment of the unknown singer Polina positively. One can see from the piece that Jaehn only produces success according to the scheme. If you want to find something special about Book of Love , then you should look at the text. It doesn't play a major role in many “deep house hits”, which is why the common, honest messages are particularly easy to get stuck in without being noticed. That is a little different here. Here, too, it is about the "carefree generation" who are indulging in their love life. It is nice that it is consistently related to the moment. Nothing with Schlageresque eternity romance, nothing with promises, marriage or children, just now.

Charts and chart placements

Book of Love reached position seven in the single charts in Germany and was in the top 10 for six weeks and in the charts for 25 weeks. In addition, the single was at the top of the German airplay charts for four weeks . It was Jaehn and Polina's first airplay number one hit. In Austria the single reached position 15 in 18 chart weeks and in Switzerland position 61 in four chart weeks. In the US Billboard Hot 100 , the single missed a chart entry, but was placed at position 34 of the US Hot Dance / Electronic Songs . In 2015, the single was placed at position 55 in the German annual single charts.

For Jaehn as an interpreter this is the third chart success in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. It is his third top 10 success in Germany. As a producer it is his second and as an author his first chart success in all three countries. It is his second top 10 success as a producer and his first as a writer in Germany. For Polina it is the first chart success as an author and interpreter in all three countries. Harry reached the German single charts for the fifth time, the top 10 for the first time. In Austria it is also his fifth chart success, in Switzerland after Cry Baby Cry ( Santana feat. Sean Paul & Joss Stone ) and Funhouse ( P! nk ) for the third time an author participation from him the charts.
