So Close ( English for "So Close") is a song of German DJs Felix Jaehn and the Swedish DJ duo NOTD , in cooperation with the US music producer Trio Captain Cuts and the British singer-songwriter Georgia Ku.
Creation and artwork
The song was written jointly by the US music producer trio Captain Cuts (consisting of: Ben Berger, Ryan McMahon and Ryan Rabin), the German DJ Felix Jaehn, the British singer-songwriter Georgia Ku and the Swedish DJ duo NOTD (consisting of from: Samuel Brandt and Magnus Danielsson). With the exception of Ku, all authors were also involved in the production of the play. The mastering took place under the direction of the US-American sound engineer Colin Leonard from SING Mastering and his assistant Donn Aaron Mixon. So Close was mixed by US sound engineer Miles Walker and his assistant Ryan Jumper. The single was released under the ToWonder Music label and distributed through Universal Music Publishing .
On the cover of the maxi single - in addition to the artist name and song title - the entrance to a club located in Chinatown can be seen. It is a drawing and not a real recording. The artist names and the song title can be found in an advertisement above the club entrance.
Publication and promotion
So Close was first published as a single download on November 2, 2018. In the same year, a single CD was also released as a promotional sound carrier in Sweden . On February 1, 2019, So Close (Remixes) was released, a 2-track single for download. This includes two remix versions by the British DJ Curbi and the US DJ Dwilly.
background information
On the day of the single release, Jaehn revealed how So Close came about through his Instagram profile . The idea for this came to him when he was on his way to the recording studio in Los Angeles (United States) and was eating an açaí bowl on his trip. He liked it so much that he loudly uttered the sound "mmm aaaah", whereupon his tour manager asked him if he knew it wasn't sex . Jaehn replied: "Yes, but the current state of health is so close , he has not felt such satisfaction for a long time". They changed the statement to “so close to love” ( English for “so close to being in love”) because it would feel “more appropriate”. ("I was eating an acai bowl on my way to the studio in LA that was so good I began to 'mmm aaaah'. My tour manager said 'You know it's not sex don't you?' I replied 'Yeah but it's the closest I got in a while '… and the idea for a song was born. We turned it into' so close to love ', which feels a lot more appropriate! ")

The lyrics to So Close are in English. Literally translated into German, the title means something like "So close". The music and lyrics were written jointly by Captain Cuts, Felix Jaehn, Georgia Ku and NOTD. Musically, the song moves in the realm of dance pop and house . The tempo is 125 beats per minute . In terms of content, So Close deals with the ups and downs of a love relationship. The song is based on two verses, a bridge and a chorus. It starts with the first verse, followed by a pre-chorus and finally the actual chorus . The same process is repeated with the second stanza. The second chorus is followed by a short post-chorus, before the song ends with a bridge. The bridge and the post-chorus are made up of parts of the chorus. The rhythm of the stanzas is in a 4-to-the-floor rhythm. The singing in the song is only from Georgia Ku, the other interpreters are only involved in the production.

Music video
The music video for So Close was in Tokyo ( Japan turned) and celebrated on 3 December 2018 YouTube premiered. You can see the story of a young woman and a young man who are getting closer. The video begins with the two of them walking separately through the streets of Tokyo, completely shielded from the outside world, concentrating only on their smartphones . Suddenly both of them collide in front of Ueno station , they look each other in the eye and circle around each other. After a short while he starts dancing and holds out his hand to her. After a short solo dance on her part, she grabs his hand and the two run off together. Suddenly the scene changes and both are in new outfits in a new location in downtown Tokyo. There they continue to dance. Sometimes they can be seen together, how they get closer, sometimes how they keep their distance & in some scenes everyone alone. The video ends with both hands holding. The total length of the video is 3:20 minutes. Directed by Miles & AJ. To date, the music video has over 0.9 million views on YouTube (as of February 2019).

S. Wernke-Schmiesing from the German-language music portal dance-charts.com is of the opinion that So close will be a "hit". She and the editorial team are committed to that. The song seems made for the radio and Spotify universes. With NOTD, which already introduced 250 million music streams this year, and “Superstar Jaehn”, not much could go wrong.
The DJ Magazine has named So Close to one of the "highlights of the EDM releases this week." In the same breath, the magazine described the piece as “worth listening to” as well as “mood maker” for the rainy days.
Charts and chart placements
So Close hit the Swedish music charts right after its release . The single reached position 77 and stayed in Sverigetopplistan for a week. In Germany, the single reached the official single charts for the first time three months after its initial release. So Close was able to record position 45 in the German single charts , the single remained in the charts for a total of nine weeks. The single entered the German dance charts in the first week of sales in November 2018, and in ninth place, the single reached its highest position in eleven chart weeks. In addition, So Close reached position 82 in the German download charts . In Austria, the single reached position 43 in the charts in seven weeks. In the United States, the single missed the Billboard Hot 100 and was able to place itself in various genre charts. So Close reached the top position for Billboard Dance Club Songs and the Billboard Dance / Mix Show Airplay and position twelve of Billboard Hot Dance / Electronic Songs .
For Jaehn as an interpreter, this is, including the chart success with his music project Eff , the 13th chart success in Germany and his twelfth chart success in Austria. Awards for music sales
After 24 hours, the song had over half a million music streams on Spotify . In the United States, the single had over 1.8 million music streaming and over 1,000 downloads as of January 3, 2019. On March 20, 2019, So Close was awarded a gold record in Canada for over 40,000 units sold. In the United States, the single also went gold on October 30, 2019. A silver record followed in the UK on August 7, 2020. Thus was So Close one silver and two gold medals for more than 740,000 units sold.
