Bonfire ( English for "beacon") is a song by the German DJ Felix Jaehn , in cooperation with the Finnish singer-songwriter Alma . The piece is the seventh single from his debut album I .
Creation and artwork
The song was written jointly by Felix Jaehn, Alma Miettinen, Pascal Reinhardt and Joe Walter. The single was produced by the Hitimpulse producer team (consisting of: Jeremy Chacon, Jonas Kalisch, Henrik Meinke and Alexsej Vlasenko) and Felix Jaehn. The mastering was done by Lex Barkey, the piece was also mixed by Hitimpulse. The single was released under the music labels Island Records and L'Agentur and distributed by BMG Music Publishing , Sony / ATV Music Publishing and Joe Walter Music Publishing . On the cover of the maxi single - in addition to the artist name and song title - a woman's torso surrounded by flames and therefore unidentifiable can be seen.
Publication and promotion
The first release of Bonfire was made as a single download on July 15, 2016. The publication of a physical single was followed a month later on August 19, 2016 in Germany, Austria and Switzerland . The physical maxi single was released as a 2-track single and includes the song Cut the Cord as the B-side .
In order to promote the song and oneself, joint live appearances followed during prime time on September 17, 2016 during the ProSieben game show Schlag den Star and during the Bambi awards ceremony on November 17, 2016 on ARD . At the Bambi Awards, Jaehn was also awarded a Bambi in the entertainment category.

Music video
An official music video for Bonfire was initially not released. Jaehn initially only published an audio video in which the song can be heard and only a section of the cover image of the single can be seen on his YouTube channel. Within a month, the video had over three million clicks on YouTube.
The official music video was released on August 17, 2016, and it premiered on the Internet presence of Billboard magazine . The shooting took place outside the Bulgarian capital Sofia . You can see Jaehn and Alma fighting with fire in a mountain landscape. For the most part, the two can be seen together in front of a fire as they present the song. In between, Alma can be seen singing the song on a pile of tires, while scenes of Jaehn are shown in which he tries to avoid attacks by fire and, among other things, fends off fireballs with a tennis racket. The video ends in slow motion with the two moving away from the fire while an explosion takes place in the background. The total length of the video is 3:21 minutes. Directed by Kitty Bolhoefer. To date, both videos have over 3.6 million clicks on YouTube (as of August 2016).

Bonfire reached position three in the single charts in Germany and was in the top 10 for nine weeks and in the charts for 29 weeks. In Austria the single reached position ninth and was able to stay in the top 10 for two weeks and in the charts for 23 weeks. In Switzerland , the single reached position 39 in the charts in 19 weeks. In 2016, the single was placed 23rd in the German annual single charts and 47th in Austria.
For Jaehn as an interpreter, this is the fifth chart success in Germany and the fourth in Austria and Switzerland. It is his fourth top 10 success in Germany and his third in Austria.
