Like a Riddle ( English as "like a puzzle") is a song of German DJs Felix Jaehn , in cooperation with the Swedish indie folk - Duo Hearts & Colors and the French DJ Adam trigger. The piece is the ninth single from Jähns debut album I .
Creation and artwork
The song was written jointly by Steven Bashir, Florent Hugel, Felix Jaehn, Patrik Jean, Aiko Rohd and Adam Trigger. The production was done by Jaehn and Rohd; The two co-producers were Christophe Vitorino De Almeida and Trigger. Jaehn was also responsible for the programming. The mastering took place under the direction of the Austrian sound engineer Nikodem Milewski . Like a Riddle was mixed by the Berlin music producer Lex Barkey. The single was released under the music labels Polydor / Island and Virgin Records , published by Budde Music, Duende Songs, Edition Infrarohd and Sony / ATV Music Publishing and distributed by Universal Music Publishing .
On the cover of the maxi single - next to the artist name and song title - you can see a pink stripe and Jaehn's face. The pink stripe is arranged in the middle and runs vertically in front of a white background through the middle of the cover picture, at the bottom a white "I" is embedded, this stands for Jaehn's debut album of the same name. Jaehn's face can be seen on the lower left edge. It shows him laughing with his eyes closed. The same artwork concept can be found on the cover of the debut album as well as a few other single releases. The photograph by Jaehn comes from Jens Koch.
Publication and promotion
The first release of Like a Riddle took place as a single download on October 6, 2017. The single was released simultaneously in both their "single" and in their " Extended Version " each as a single download. On December 1, 2017, an acoustic version of the song was released as a single download. On December 29, 2017, a remix EP was released. This was released as a download and contains three remix versions of Like a Riddle .

The lyrics to Like a Riddle are in English. The music and the text were written jointly by Steven Bashir, Florent Hugel , Felix Jaehn, Patrik Jean, Aiko Rohd and Adam Trigger. Musically, the song moves in the area of house . The song is in the key of G and has a tempo of 110 beats per minute . In terms of content, the piece deals with the ups and downs, puzzles, misunderstandings and conflicts in a love relationship. The piece consists of two stanzas, each composed of five lines, a bridge and a refrain . It begins with the first verse, followed by the chorus for the first time. The same process is repeated with the second stanza. After the second chorus, a four-line bridge follows - which is predominantly from the repetitive question "I do not get it, I do not get it, what you want?" ( English as "I do not understand, I do not understand it , what do you want? ") - before the song ends with the third chorus. The main vocals for the song come from the two Hearts & Colors members and Tim Schou, the front man of the Danish indie band A Friend in London . As with Feel Good , Schou is not mentioned as an official guest singer. Jaehn and Trigger only work as DJs and instrumentalists (keyboard, drums and trumpet).

Music video
The music video shows a couple that is alone in a restaurant. The video can be divided into three sections. In the first, the woman starts teasing her boyfriend at the table and they both dance around the restaurant together. In the second section, both of them sit at the table again while the woman's attention is focused on a monitor on which the two members of Hearts & Colors and Jaehn can be seen. The man becomes jealous and wants her to look at him, an argument develops as he tries to turn her head towards him with his hand. Both chase their way through the restaurant, which leads to the fact that they throw plates at each other in the kitchen. Reconciliation follows in the third section. At first both of them sit alone, separated from each other, until suddenly she jumps up and approaches him dancing. In the end, the couple dances back together through the restaurant. The video ends with the couple leaving the restaurant together. While the two are leaving the restaurant, Jaehn walks towards them, who enters the restaurant.
In an interview, Jaehn described that the music video should reflect the ups and downs of a relationship. He wanted to combine the story with a piece of music that consistently evokes a positive feeling, so that people stand up, dance and forget their problems for the moment when they see it.
The music video for Like a Riddle premiered on October 6, 2017 on YouTube . For the first time, a music video by Jaehn appeared on the same day as the accompanying single. The total length of the video is 3:00 minutes. Directed by Toyah Diebel and Niels Münter. To date, the music video has over three million views on YouTube (as of April 2018).

Reviews
Julia Keizer from the German-language music portal dance-charts.de says the piece has absolute catchy potential due to its “rhythmic melody” . The acoustic version of this is a "soulful" song. A great ballad was developed from a "fast radio song", which goes well with the winter temperatures and cozy atmosphere. In addition to the slowed down melody of the original, the voices of the two singers from Hearts & Colors came to the fore and would definitely give the listener goose bumps . The stormy end, however, could have faded even more. All in all, the acoustic version was very successful and a “must” in every winter playlist !

Like a Riddle reached position 85 in the single charts in Germany and stayed in the charts for a total of one week. In the German airplay charts , the single reached the top position for a week . Furthermore, the single was placed in the German dance charts for seven weeks and reached its highest rating at position 15. In Austria the single reached position 68 in two chart weeks and in Switzerland position 89 in one chart week.
For Jaehn as an interpreter, this is, including the chart success with his music project Eff , the tenth chart success in Germany, as well as his ninth in Austria and his eighth in Switzerland. As a music producer, this is his ninth chart success in Germany, his eighth in Austria and his seventh in Switzerland. As an author, Like a Riddle is Jaehn's eighth chart success in Germany, the seventh in Austria and the sixth in Switzerland. As an author, Hugel reached the German single charts for the third time after Coming Home (Hugel feat. Jimmy Hennessy) and I Believe I'm Fine ( Robin Schulz & Hugel) and the charts in Austria and for the second time after I Believe I'm Fine Switzerland.
