GEMET

GEMET ( GE eral M ultilingual E nvironmental T hesaurus to German as "General Multilingual Environmental Thesaurus") is a development on behalf of the European Environment Agency (EEA) and the European Environment Information and Observation Network (European Environment Information and Observation Network - EIONET ) managed and published.

GEMET is a summary of several controlled multilingual vocabularies and was designed as a general thesaurus with the aim of finding a common terminology for environmentally relevant terms in a European context. The current version is available in 27 (mostly European) languages ​​and contains over 6000 terms.

The public can use the thesaurus in several ways. It can be accessed online via the EIONET website, can be used via web services or can be downloaded in the form of HTML or SKOS files.

GEMET is used by many Europe-wide environmental-related applications; Among other things, it is used to set up the European spatial data infrastructure INSPIRE .
