European environmental information and observation network
The European Environment Information and Observation Network (EIONET, from the English. European E nvironment I nformation and O bservation NET work ) is an environmental information system of the European Environment Agency .
The purpose is to provide up-to-date and quality-assured data, information and expertise on the condition and the factors influencing the environment in Europe. This is intended to enable European environmental policy to effectively protect the environment at national and European level and to review the effects and effectiveness of environmental protection measures.
The tools of EIONET include geographic information systems and numerous other related information systems in the environmental sector, open source software tools that are made publicly available, a wiki , document management systems and directories to facilitate international cooperation such as the multilingual environmental thesaurus GEMET .
