The Pestalozzi Community Primary School is located in the southeast of Lüdenscheid city center. It was founded in 1897 as an Eastern School. There are currently around 215 students in 9 classes being taught by 12 teachers and supervised by 7 people on a half-day and full-day basis. A social pedagogical specialist supports the work of integration and promotion in particular. The school is named after the Swiss pedagogue and social reformer Johann Heinrich Pestalozzi .
history
The East School, founded in 1897, was designed as a primary school with eight years and all-day classes. In the school year 1898/99 the number of students was 629 in seven classes, an average of 90 students per class. After the Second World War, in 1946/47, the number of pupils reached its highest level, due to refugees . 18 classes with a total of 1250 students and around eleven teachers were formed. This was only possible through shift work, alternately in the morning and in the afternoon. On February 2, 1946, the school was named Pestalozzi School. In 1968/69 the term elementary school disappeared and it became a primary school with nine classes, 353 students and seven teachers. This year the first Greek and Turkish students are also mentioned in the records. In the 1980s the number of students fell to around 230, which has remained relatively constant until today. In 1992/93 the number of foreign / late repatriate children peaked at 120. From 1996, mother tongue supplementary classes were given in Arabic and Greek. In 2001 the school got its own gym with two new classrooms that can be reached without barriers. Language classes in Turkish and Greek are currently offered. A learning studio for the individual support of children in the first grade rounds off the offer. In the school year 13/14 the 218 children are taught in nine classes. The school is run by the principal Rolf Breucker and the vice principal Verena Sager.
Current
The primary school celebrated its 100th birthday in April 1997. It is a multinational school that teaches children from more than 10 nations. In total there are around 218 boys and girls, more than half of them with a migration background.
Every two years, a school or district festival is held alternating with a project week. Since the start of the 2005/06 school year, the school has offered 36 childcare places in the open all-day school (OGT). Half-day care (HT) (= reliable primary school from 7.30 a.m. to 1.15 p.m.) has been available with up to 28 places since 1997. All-day care (OGT) offers early supervision from 7.30 a.m., lunch in the cafeteria, homework support, language training and creative and sports activities in the afternoons until 4:00 p.m.
Various student working groups (also across grades) have been set up. The sponsoring association, school caretakers and staff are currently devoting themselves to the topic of "behavioral training"; a training room was set up for this purpose.

PC and internet
PC workstations were set up in the media corners of the classrooms as early as 1997. The school has had its own website since 1998 and since 2000 it has been one of the first primary schools in North Rhine-Westphalia with internet access and an intranet.
All classes now have their own internet access. The Computer-AG works on 5 computers in the server room. The school administration, the secretariat, the caretaker, the care services (HT and OGT) and the teachers' room are also networked.
Partner school
A partnership with the Gymnasio Thira ( Greece / Santorini Island ) has existed since 2000 . However, there had been ties to the school years earlier.
Shortly before the 2006 summer break, the school sought a school partnership in Australia: St. John Primary School in Clifton . The first letters and e-mail contacts took place on the occasion of the soccer World Cup. This partnership was brokered by the Brighouse Society.
