GIMP Drawing Kit or GDK is a program library that acts as an abstraction layer between GTK + and the window system ( X11 or Wayland under Linux, Quartz Compositor under Mac OS X, GDI under Windows). GDK takes on the basic functions, such as displaying graphic primitives, raster graphics or fonts and managing drag and drop .

Due to the abstraction with GDK and GLib , GTK + can support other operating systems.

With version 3.90 GTK + also contains the component GSK ( GTK + Scene Graph Kit ).
