GNU SIP Witch (English "witch" = "witch") is a free SIP server software with peer-to-peer capabilities from the GNU project . It is the GNU implementation of the Session Initiation Protocol (SIP), which is used for routing calls.

Availability

SIP Witch is distributed as free software under the terms of version 3 or higher of the GNU General Public License (GPL). It is designed for GNU / Linux , Mac OS X , BSD and Windows and should also support Android in the future . With the popular Linux distributions Ubuntu and Fedora , SIP Witch can be installed directly from the standard package sources.

SIP Witch is written in the C ++ programming language and uses the uCommon, eXosip and GNU oSIP program libraries.

Functionality

The software enables IP telephony as part of a self-organizing peer-to-peer telephone network. It masters functions such as call diversion , call distribution, holding calls and presence notification and (text) messages, supports encrypted connections and also offers NAT penetration for establishing peer-to-peer connections.

history

The SIP Witch has been developed by David Sugar since August 10, 2007 as part of the GNU Telephony project. The first version was 0.1.0. Version 1 was released on May 14, 2011. It is used as a component of GNU Free Call, which is intended to be an alternative to Skype .
