GOCR is free text recognition software (OCR) from Jörg Schulenburg that is operated using command line commands.
GOCR recognizes different printer fonts without having to resort to a database , which makes it particularly easy to use. In addition to plain text, the program can also decode common one-dimensional barcodes .

The project has been hosted on SourceForge since mid-2000 . Since when the source code was published on SourceForge.net, it was found that a project with the name GOCR already existed, the project management also introduced the name JOCR for the program. Around 2000/2001 it was included in the Linux distributions SuSE and Debian . Until the release of Tesseract in 2005 (2006?) It was the best and most popular text recognition software from the fields of free software and Linux software alongside Ocrad .
