The gas mask and filter

The GP-5 gas mask ( Russian: Гражда́нский Противога́з-5 ) is a Soviet - made NBC protective mask . Production of the mask started in 1962 and ended in 1990. The mask was issued to the Soviet civilian population to ensure protection against chemical and biological warfare agents. The mask and its accessories weigh approx. 1.1  kg . The GP-5 mask is suitable for all weather situations and temperatures from −40 ° C to 113 ° C.

construction

The GP-5 gas mask consists of a rubber mask body, round eyeglasses, and a brown lacquered connector, which also contains the exhalation valve. The mask was presented in a brown shoulder bag, anti-fog lenses and a green filter. The GP-5 gas mask is often confused with the SchM 41 M of the former NVA , but differs from it in the size of the connector.

Others

Because of its simple structure and low price, the mask is very popular among collectors. Since the filters contain asbestos , they are dangerous goods that cannot be traded in the EU without approval under the REACH regulation . Without the filter, the masks are harmless in this regard.
