history

The first shareholders of the non-profit settlement company Oldenburg GmbH , founded on August 5, 1921, were the city of Oldenburg and the Warrior Home Association of the Duchy of Oldenburg . The most important task was to combat the housing shortage after the First World War . Up until the beginning of the Second World War (1939), the company was particularly active in small-scale housing developments and home building, especially in the northern districts of Oldenburg.

The outbreak of the Second World War stopped further projects. After its end, the GSG participated in the reconstruction and provided, among other things, more than 40,000 displaced people with living space. In order to stimulate social housing construction , the First Housing Act came into force nationwide on January 1, 1950 . With the Social Housing Fund (SoWoFo), the city of Oldenburg launched a municipal program. Over 2,200 rental apartments and small settlements, especially tailored to the needs of young families, have been created by the GSG.

The building boom in Oldenburg continued in the following years. The GSG acted as the client in almost all of Oldenburg's districts. When the non-profit housing law was abolished in 1990, the non-profit settlement company became the GSG Oldenburg Bau- und Wohngesellschaft mbH . Your shareholders set out voluntary compliance with charitable goals in the partnership agreement.

In order to cope with the growing population of Oldenburg, the GSG has been busy developing new residential areas and renovating the existing stock since around 2005.
