GSTP

GSTP ( General Support Technology Program ) is a long-term technology program package launched by ESA in the 1990s with the aim of developing promising concepts and approaches for complete space applications. These can be individual devices, instruments, systems or entire satellites. All technologies are covered with the exception of telecommunications, for which there is a special ARTES program. Companies in the area of the member states of the ESA can apply for corresponding contracts.

GSTP is planned for five years at a time; z. Z. (2013) is running the fifth of these periods, which is referred to as GSTP5. A distinction is made between the following "elements":

  • Element 1 includes general activities ( General Activities ), in continuation of earlier studies.
  • Element 2 is aimed at assemblies and components ( building blocks and components ) with the aim of achieving a high degree of maturity on systems of low complexity.
  • Element 3 ( Security for the Citizens ) is specifically intended for security-related developments.
  • Element 4 enables individual products, assemblies or subsystems to be flown on a satellite in order to obtain a demonstration of their performance ( in orbit demonstration ). In special cases, entire demonstrator satellites are also possible, but the more common case is to fly as a "passenger" on another satellite.
