The Bundesgymnasium and Wirtschaftskundliches Bundesrealgymnasium 18 Haizingergasse (GWIKU 18 Haizingergasse) is a Bundesgymnasium and Wirtschaftskundliches Bundesrealgymnasium in the 18th district in Vienna .

history

The school was founded in 1921 as a middle school for girls. From 1954 and 1972, the school was headed by Minna Lachs , who campaigned for the modernization of the school system and promoted student participation .

Architecture and buildings

In June 1998 the school was expanded and rebuilt and completed in May 2000. The school has two basement floors, a library, a gym and a school buffet. Furthermore, the school has 15 special classrooms such as a music room, a textile work room, as well as a drawing room, biology room, physics and chemistry room.

Educational work, equipment and offers

The GWIKU 18 Haizingergasse has 23 classes and 550 students. (Status: 2014/15)

Since the 1999/2000 school year, a free work class has been offered in the lower grades in each year. In the upper level there is the possibility to choose between two types of school. In the grammar school, in addition to French, Latin is taught from the third grade and from the fifth grade onwards. Presentation and communication are taught from the sixth grade onwards.

As an alternative to the grammar school, an economic secondary school with a media focus is offered. Instead of Latin, presentation and communication are taught here from the fifth grade, as well as the subjects Internet, radio, video, print media and media analysis from the fifth grade. In addition to the compulsory subjects, there are also optional subjects and non-binding exercises such as band, football, volleyball, choir, photography.

For the pupils, day care until 5:10 pm or a bridging lunchtime is offered after the morning class. Extracurricular use takes place via computer driving license or typewriting courses, as well as rental of the gym.

The school has day care with a seal of approval.

In 2011 the school was awarded the Austrian School Prize.
