The GZM-003 is a military amphibious rapid floating bridge and transfer vehicle made in China that was developed by Norinco in the 1990s .
Development history
The Chinese GZM-003 floating speed bridge is largely based on the Soviet PMM-2M , which was manufactured in the Ukrainian SSR by the then armaments company Waggonbau Krjukow . After the collapse of the Soviet Union, the manufacturer was restructured away from armaments and towards civilian wagon construction. This meant the end for the PMM ferries. In 1993 the Ministry of Defense of the PRC signaled an interest in acquiring two PMM-2Ms from Ukraine . This also included training and introduction for the Chinese. As a result, the PMM-2M was reconstructed for the People's Liberation Army by the Chinese arms giant Norinco with the designation GZM-003, which has now been released for export .
technology
The GZM-003 is based on a chain chassis made in China with six rubber-tyred rollers. In the marching configuration, the two hinged pontoons are folded on top of each other on the vehicle, which are folded outwards when entering water bodies. Several GZM-003 can operate coupled or individually. It is propelled in the water by means of two electrically operated propellers that can accelerate to a maximum of 10 km / h. Every GZM-003 ferry has folding loading ramps , so that loading and unloading is possible from both sides. The manufacturer states that it only takes six minutes to get a GZM-003 unit up and running. The coupling of two GZM-003 takes eight minutes, the swimming speed of the two coupled ferries is nine km / h.
