Gabriel Resources Ltd. is on the Canadian stock exchange TSX -listed mining company , which in a controversy related to the mine Roşia Montană in Transylvania , Romania was known. The mining area is owned by Roșia Montană Gold Corporation SA (RMGC), a Romanian company in which Gabriel Resources holds an 80.69% stake. The remaining shares belong to CNCAF Minvest SA, a Romanian state holding company.

Rosia Montana is the largest undeveloped gold deposit in Europe, the reserves ( English Proven and Probable ) of 10.1 million troy ounces of gold and 47.6 million ounces of silver with a mineralization of 1.46 g / t gold and 6.88 g / t silver offers. The mine is estimated to produce 626,000 ounces of gold annually for the first five years after development. The mine is expected to produce an average of 500,000 ounces of gold and 1.79 million ounces of silver annually for 16 years.

So far 125 families have been relocated to Alba Iulia for the project .

Gabriel Resources also holds exploration licenses for the Bucium Rodu Frasin (Au-Ag) and Bucium Tarnita (Cu-Au) deposits near Roșia Montană .

The project is located in an area that has been mining for centuries. In 2006, Minvest proposed the area for open mining.

The project is the subject of various protests. In September 2013, people in Bucharest , Cluj and other Romanian cities protested against the project, among other things because of the planned chemistry with cyanides for mining and processing , which has already caused severe damage in other Romanian mining projects . As one of the results, Gabriel's shares fell 64 percent, with the company's valuation suspended by Scotia Capital.

In July 2015, Gabriel Resources filed a lawsuit with the International Center for the Settlement of Investment Disputes because of the blockade of the project .
