Amayapampa is a town in the Potosí department in the highlands of the South American Andean state of Bolivia .

Location in the vicinity

Amayapampa is the central place of the canton Amayapampa in the district ( Bolivian : Municipio ) Chayanta in the province of Rafael Bustillo . Amayapampa is located at an altitude of 3994  m in one of the high valleys of the Cordillera Azanaques east of the Río Chayanta .

Amayapampa is located east of the Bolivian Altiplano in the northern section of the Cordillera Central . The vegetation is that of the puna , the climate is a typical time of day climate in which the mean daily temperature fluctuations are more pronounced than the seasonal fluctuations.

The annual average temperature of the region is 9 ° C, the monthly average values ​​fluctuate between just under 5 ° C in June / July and 11 ° C from November to March (see climate diagram Uncía). The annual precipitation is 370 mm and falls mainly in the summer months, the arid period with monthly values ​​of a maximum of 10 mm lasts from April to October.

Transport network

Amayapampa is located at a distance of 140 kilometers by road southeast of Oruro , the capital of the neighboring Oruro department .

From Oruro, the paved road Ruta 1 leads south 22 kilometers via Vinto to Machacamarquita , eight kilometers north of Machacamarca . In Machacamarquita, the route 6 branches off in a south-easterly direction and reaches the city of Llallagua after 79 kilometers via Huanuni and over pass heights of more than 4,500 m. From there the Ruta 6 leads another seven kilometers to the provincial capital Uncía . Here a dirt road branches off to the east and after seventeen kilometers reaches the town of Chayanta . From here it's another two kilometers in a northerly direction and then another thirteen kilometers in serpentines to the southeast to Amayapampa .
