Gaius Valarius Sabinus

Gaius Valarius Sabinus was the leading financial politician in the Roman Empire during the reign of Emperor Aurelian . After the revolt of the finance minister Felicissimus , who provoked an uprising against Aurelian in 271 after his counterfeit coins were discovered, the emperor commissioned Sabinus to take care of the Roman financial system. Sabinus worked from Ticinum , today's Pavia, where the largest mint of Aurelian was. He was responsible for the coin reform carried out by Aurelian in 274.
