Gaius Vibius Publilianus
Gaius Vibius Publilianus (full name form Gaius Vibius Gai filius Velina Publilianus ) was a member of the Roman knighthood ( Eques ) living in the 1st century AD . Individual stations in his career are known through an inscription on an altar that is dated to AD 41/70. His career is shown in the inscription in ascending order.
Publilianus was initially the scribe of a quaestor ( scriba quaestorius ). This was followed by his military career, which consisted of the usual tres militiae for a member of the equestrian order . First he took over the leadership of the Cohors IIII Thracum as prefect . He then served as a tribune in the Legio IIII Macedonica and then in the Legio XXI Rapax , both of which were stationed in the province of Germania .
He then returned to his homeland and erected an altar to Hercules Invictus , which was found in Tibur, today's Tivoli . Publilianus was inscribed in the Tribus Velina and therefore possibly came from Picenum .
