Gaius of Milan

Gaius of Milan (also: Cajus or Gajus ; † allegedly around 85) was, according to legend, an early bishop of Milan . Its historical existence is uncertain.

Gaius is said to have been appointed as his successor in the episcopate by Bishop Anathalon in the time of Emperor Nero . Gaius is said to have suffered during the Neronian persecution of Christians, but survived it. He is also said to have baptized Saint Vitalis and his sons Gervasius and Protasius . He had chosen Castricianus to succeed him as Bishop of Milan .

Gaius is venerated as a saint . His feast day is September 27th .
