Gakken Holdings Co., Ltd. ( Japanese : 株式会社 学 研 ホ ー ル デ ィ ン グ ス, Hepburn : Kabushiki-gaisha Gakken Hōrudingusu ) is a Japanese publishing company founded in 1947 by Hideto Furuoka. Its annual turnover is 90 billion yen.

history

In 1981 Gakken released Super Puck Monster , a tabletop LCD game that was very similar to Pac-Man in terms of gameplay, exclusively in Japan. Coleco later licensed the game and released it worldwide as an official Pac-Man game.

In October 1983, Gakken released the Gakken Compact Vision TV Boy stationary game console .

Today Gakken publishes almost exclusively textbooks and magazines and also produces other educational products. For kindergarten children and their caregivers, they make items such as nursing guides and the like. In addition, Gakken also publishes general family and gender-oriented magazines in the fields of sports, music, art, history, animation, cooking, and puzzles.

Since 1993, Gakken has published monthly logic puzzle magazines under the name "Logic Paradise".
