Gallery Mau Mau

The Gallery Mau Mau was a Kunsthalle of the counter-culture in the South African Cape Town , which existed from 1996 1998. The name goes back to the Mau Mau War in Kenya in the 1950s .

The short-lived experimental room enabled inexpensive access to works by artists from all population groups . He broke boundaries and defined the period in which the visible art culture in the city made great progress. The art gallery was run by artist David Robert Lewis , multimedia artist Adam Lieber, musician and DJ Nick Birkby, and visual artist Chris Slack.

The Kunsthalle is responsible for the success of some of the most famous young South African artists. These include Mustafa Maluka , who made his first solo appearance here, and Donovan Ward and Julia Clark .
