Gamaliel VI. was the last Jewish patriarch from 400 to 415.

The deposition of the last Jewish patriarch, Gamaliel VI., On October 17, 415 is mentioned in the 22nd edict of the eighth chapter of the 16th book of the Codex Theodosianus .

The reasons for his removal were manifold. The patriarch had already lost his rights and privileges through Honorius . Furthermore, the patriarch did not adhere to a ban that prohibited the construction of new synagogues. And still was Gamaliel VI. active as the highest judge and as the final court of appeal in legal disputes between Jews and Christians. The 29th edict from the same chapter from the above-mentioned book only mentions that the patriarch had died without a successor being named in this edict. At the same time, the patriarchal tax post excessum patriarcharum was converted into an imperial tax. Theodosius II ended the Jewish patriarchate in 429.

Gamaliel VI. In addition to his position as head of religion and supreme judicial authority, he was also a talented physician. Marcellus Empiricus mentions an antidote for diseases of the spleen that was developed under Gamalielus Patriarcha ( De Medicamentis, liber 21 ).
