The  Gamaraal Foundation  is a   foundation founded by Anita Winter in Switzerland in 2014 . It supports needy Holocaust survivors and is committed to the sustainable promotion of Holocaust education.

Areas of activity

Support for Holocaust survivors

The Gamaraal Foundation supports needy Holocaust survivors with a variety of assistance. For example, the foundation makes financial donations to needy Holocaust survivors three times a year - on the Jewish holidays of Rosh Hashana, Hanukkah and Passover. The foundation also finances medical aids. In March 2020, on the occasion of the Corona crisis, the foundation also launched a special help campaign for Holocaust survivors and other people affected by the Corona crisis.

Holocaust Education

In the field of Holocaust Education, the Gamaraal Foundation u. a. Encounters with contemporary witnesses of the Holocaust, documents testimonies from Holocaust survivors and offers study trips to Auschwitz together with the Foundation against Racism and Anti-Semitism (GRA).

The Last Swiss Holocaust Survivors

When Switzerland took over the chairmanship of the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA) in 2017, the Gamaraal Foundation u. a. realized the exhibition project "The Last Swiss Holocaust Survivors" with the support of the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs. The exhibition portrays some of the last Holocaust survivors who live in all parts of Switzerland. The ETH Zurich Archives for Contemporary History provided scientific support for the project. The exhibition was particularly well received by school classes, and there was also great interest from the media. In March 2018, the Gamaraal Foundation, together with the Archives for Contemporary History at ETH Zurich, was awarded the Dr. Kurt Bigler Prize awarded for "outstanding projects in the field of Holocaust education". Occasionally the exhibition was u. a. criticized for its title.
