The mountain chickadee ( poecile gambeli ) is an American songbird by William Gambel is named.
features
Both sexes have a black hood, a white upper eye stripe, a black rear eye stripe and a black bib. The back and sides are gray and the underside is light gray. The short beak is black. With a wingspan of 19 cm, the bird becomes 14 cm long.
Occurrence
The Gambelmeise lives in mountainous regions in western North America from the southern Yukon area to California and Texas . In the cold season, it sometimes moves to deeper regions.
behavior
In summer and during the breeding season, the diet consists mainly of insects . Seeds from conifers and other plants are sought all year round. Gambelts can be found in pairs or small groups, and outside the breeding season in groups with other species.
Reproduction
The monogamous bird nests once or twice a year. The female incubates the eggs for about 14 days. The young birds are fed by both parent birds for around three weeks.
