Gara

Gara ( Basque for "We are" ) is a bilingual ( Basque and Spanish ) daily newspaper in the Basque Country ( Spain ), which is published in Donostia (Spanish: San Sebastián ). The proportion of texts written in Spanish is greater than that of those written in Basque.

Gara claims to have 130,000 readers and has appeared since January 30, 1999 as the successor to the left-wing and pro-separatist Egin , which was banned on July 15, 1998 by the Spanish government under José María Aznar .

On March 12, 2004 , she became internationally known when she reported at 6 p.m. that a person allegedly called her on behalf of the Basque separatist organization ETA , which denied ETA's involvement in the Madrid train attacks .
