Garcia Sanchez II

García Sánchez , called the tremor (* around 964, † 1000 ) was García II. Count of Aragón and King of Navarre .

He was the son of Sancho II and Urraca Fernández, daughter of Count Fernán González of Castile . When his father died in 994, he succeeded him to the throne.

Unlike his father, García II refused to pay tribute to the Caliphate of Cordoba , which is why Navarre was the target of Moorish retaliatory attacks.

He married Jimena Fernández, daughter of Count Fernando von Cea and Elvira Díaz. He had four children with her:

  • Sancho III. (* 990/92; † 1035), 1000–1035 King of Navarre, Count of Aragon
  • Urraca († after 1031), ∞ Alfonso V , King of León and Galicia
  • Elvira
  • García

When he died in the spring of 1000, his underage son Sancho succeeded him to the throne.
