Alfonso V , called the Noble (* 994 ; † July 5, 1028 in Viseu , Portugal ), was king of León and Galicia since 999 . He had succeeded his father Bermudo II to the throne and was under the tutelage of Doña Elvira, his mother, and Count Menendo González. During his minority he received support from Navarre and Castile in the armed conflict with Almansor . After taking office, he repopulated León, which had been destroyed by the Moors . He convened a council there, which in 1020 passed the Fueros (rights) of León. That is why he is nicknamed "the one with the good rights". He married Elvira Menéndez of Melanda (daughter of Menendo González of Galicia and Doña Toda) and, second wife, Urraca Garcés of Pamplona (daughter of García Sánchez of Navarre and Jimena Fernández). His son Bermudo III. inherited the kingdom from him in 1028. He had two daughters. Sancha from Elvira and Jimena, daughter of Urraca. He died during the siege of Viseu.
