Garcia de Sá

Dom Garcia de Sá (* approx. 1486 in Porto , Portugal ; † June 13, 1549 in Goa , Estado da India , today India ) was the 14th Governor General of Portuguese India or the Estado da India from July 1548 to June 1549 for about eleven months

His term of office was marked by the liberalization of trade in Goa, which he was able to enforce credibly as an experienced businessman. He also conquered the Bardez and Salcete regions for the Estado da India. During his tenure, the King of Tananore joined Christianity.

Garcia de Sá died on June 13, 1549 in Goa and is buried there in the church of Nossa Senhora do Rosario.
