Gareth Roberts (mathematician)

Gareth Owen Roberts (* 1964 ) is a British mathematician who studies stochastics .

Roberts studied at the University of Oxford (Jesus College) and received his PhD under Saul Jacka at the University of Warwick in 1988 (Some boundary hitting problems for diffusion processes). He was at the University of Nottingham, Cambridge and Lancaster and is a professor at the University of Warwick.

He is an expert on Markov chains and their stability and the Markov Chain Monte Carlo Method (MCMC).

Roberts received the Rollo Davidson Prize in 1999 . In 2013 he became a Fellow of the Royal Society . In 2008 he received the Guy Medal in silver. Since 2010 he has been editor of the Journal of the Royal Statistical Society (Series B).
