Garry Hart, Baron Hart of Chilton

Garry Hart Baron Hart of Chilton, (* 29. June 1940 , † 3. August 2017 ) was a British Labor - politicians . From 1998 to 2007 he was an expert and then personal advisor to the Lord Chancellor , first to Lord Irvine of Lairg and then to Lord Falconer of Thoroton .

Before joining the public service, he was a successful notary specializing in planning solicitor with Herbert Smith. His appointment has been the subject of some controversy, but he gained reputation for his positive influence on Lord Irvine and was also a source of good advice for the future Lord Chancellor, Lord Falconer.

On June 4, 2004 he was promoted to Life Peer as Baron Hart of Chilton , of Chilton in the County of Suffolk .

When Lord Falconer of Thoroton resigned in 2007, Lord Hart of Chilton also resigned. He had never spoken at the House of Lords since his appointment as Life Peer , as doing so could have conflicted interests with his government role. In 2007, however, he took the opportunity to give a speech on the occasion of the Queen's speech from the throne.

Lord Hart of Chilton lived at Chilton Hall in Suffolk with his wife and two children. He was also the godfather of Tony Blair's daughter Kathryn.
