Garthland Castle is an abandoned low castle near the Garthland Mains in the Scottish administrative unit Dumfries and Galloway .
The castle was possibly built in 1211 as a date stone with this year was discovered on the property. It also seems likely that extensions were made in 1274, as a second date stone with the named year was found there. The castle was the seat of the MacDowalls of Garthland .
With the exception of the date its nothing remains of the castle today.
