Gas gun

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The gas gun (also gas cannon) was a type of gun from the group of pneumatic guns .

Instead of highly compressed air, the gas guns used an explosive mixture of less highly compressed air and hydrocarbons as propellants . When the projectile is set in motion, this mixture is supposed to explode. As a result, with increased pressure in the front part of the cannon, the muzzle velocity of the projectile would be increased and the cannon could thus be made shorter. The Keely cannon is believed to be an early version of the gas cannon.
