Gaspar Llamazares Trigo (born November 28, 1957 in Logroño , La Rioja ) is a Spanish politician. In 2000 he followed Julio Anguita as leader of the Izquierda Unida coalition (German: United Left); in October 2008 he was replaced in this capacity by Cayo Lara . In the Spanish parliamentary elections in 2011 he was elected as a member of Parliament in Asturias .

He is the second oldest of six children and he studied medicine in Madrid and Oviedo .
